Overview
Our school is a thriving, independent school located in Surrey. The school is co-educational from Nursery to Sixth Form and enjoys small classes, averaging approximately fifteen pupils over the whole School. The school has an excellent reputation for its family-friendly ethos, with a strong focus on pupil wellbeing and personalised learning.
The School has a vibrant community spirit including regular events for staff, parents and friends of the School. It is a genuine mixed ability school with a focus on achieving each individual child’s potential.
They are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and enthusiastic Teacher of Physics to join a highly successful and established department, to teach mainly across the 11-18 age range. In Years 7-8 Science, they broadly follow the Activate Science schemes of work, however there is some scope for individual teachers to adapt the schemes of work.
The departmental/school assessment policy also reflects National Curriculum Assessment Levels. Class sizes average up to 20 across the school. In Year 9, students start the Science GCSE AQA Trilogy Course. They are assessed at the end of the year and students who demonstrate excellent subject knowledge progress onto the separate science courses in Year 10. The remaining students continue with the combined science course. At A level, they follow the OCR A syllabus for Physics. Sciences are a popular choice at A Level for pupils.
The Science department enjoys 5 well-resourced laboratories including interactive smart boards. Currently the department consists of seven full time members of teaching staff and two experienced Science Technicians.
They run a weekly STEM club and Science co-curricular activities are popular. The Science Department takes a lead role in running the School’s STEM week which coincides with the British Science Week.
