Support worker for Children with disabilities

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

  • To assist the Registered Manager in the provision of a safe, yet homely environment through which the young people looked after, both individually and as a group can be assisted to achieve their best potential within an equalities and diversity and quality assurance framework and may include undertaking delegated responsibilities for defined tasks.
  •  To participate both directly and indirectly in the physical and emotional care of all young   people in resident in the children’s home including the role of keyworker.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • As a Residential Child Care Worker, to undertake induction, supervision and performance monitoring of agency workers and support as delegated by the Registered Manager, or Deputy or in their absence by relevant Senior Managers.
  • To undertake duties necessary for the care of young people within the Children Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000, Children’s Homes Regulation 2001 and the Five Positive Outcomes for all Children and Young People (Every Child Matters)
  • To carry out duties at all times in accordance with statutory, departmental and Children’s Homes requirements so that the physical environment and operation of the Children’s Home conform to the standards set in the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • To undertake the formulation of young people care plans, including consideration of their material physical and emotional needs within an Equalities and Diversity framework.
  • Supervision, advice and consultation with other professionals can be sought to achieve an acceptable package of care.
  • To undertake planning and preparation for the admission and discharge of young people this may also include the transfer to a more appropriate setting such as a transfer to adult services, foster care placement or independent living.
  • To undertake direct care of resident young people in the Children’s Home and provide an acceptable level of material, physical, psychological and emotional care within an Equalities and Diversity Framework.
  • To liaise regularly with statutory and voluntary agencies to promote the effective operation of the Children’s Home within the Children’s and Families Division, other agencies and resources.
  • To undertake casework and Children’s Home related financial management and recording for petty cash procedures in accordance with delegated powers and authorisation, this will include the use of both manual and computerised systems.
  • To undertake the preparation, implementation and review of care plans for individual young people’s best development. Where appropriate, assisting residents to move forward independent living, working with families, and other professionals to provide the best possible service delivery.
  • To undertake partnership work with families and relevant professionals such as social workers, GPs, schools, CAMH’s and the police for the overall benefit of the young people.
  • To undertake work, training, supervision and co-ordination in order to assist people deal with behavioural difficulties or particular developmental or emotional needs in consultation with other professionals where appropriate.
  • To undertake report writing and administrative tasks associated with casework and young people’s care plans. To assist in the running of the Children’s Home, as required by Council, Statutory, departmental policies and procedures in accordance with delegated powers and authorisation.
  • To be available for and make use of professional and managerial supervision performance management, attend staff meetings and training as required by management and departmental policy.
  • To work positively with colleagues as part of a staff team covering the work of the Children’s Home at all times with management guidance and supervision. This will entail working and taking a leadership role for a variety of shifts including sleeping in duties and possibly waking nigh duty.
  • To support less experienced in particular agency workers as part of their programme of induction to the work and operation of the Children’s Home and the Children’s and Families Services.
  • To undertake work at varying levels of responsibility on occasions well as undertaking other duties specified by senior management.

Hourly rate £9 to £12
