Our School is an East London based, diverse, inclusive and community centred school who is committed to supporting all of their students throughout their education. They are are currently seeking to appoint a Design Technology Technician
The Person
- Experience and/or qualifications in working an educational setting. Ideally a level 4 but a minimum of Level 3 or equivalent qualification or experience in relevant discipline
- A desire to be innovative and add value to the DT department
- To work as part of a team within the DT department assisting each other as and when required
- The ability to work using their own initiative and demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills
The Role:
To assist in providing practical and administrative support to teaching and learning in the design and technology/ construction department.
- Coordinate the provision of technical support for the DTC department, in conjunction with the Head of Design and Technology/Construction, including determining priorities and ensuring that deadlines are met
- Create and maintain a purposeful, safe, orderly and productive working environment
- To support students and teaching staff when doing practical tasks
- To undertake routine maintenance of workshop equipment and to maintain all equipment and tools in good working condition.
- To ensure that equipment and working areas are kept in clean and tidy order, specifically after lessons
- Maintain records and place orders for materials as requested
- Responsibility for carrying out regular health and safety checks / audits on DTC workspaces and relevant equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and guidance
- Ensure the health and safety and good behaviour of pupils at all times
- Work within COSHH, CLEAPSS and other Health and Safety agency guidelines to ensure safe working practices within all areas of the workplace, disseminating advice and guidance to staff as necessary
- Carry out risk assessments and ensuring that appropriate health and safety practices are followed for technical tasks
- Monitor and manage stock and supplies, cataloguing as required and forward planning to anticipate future requirements
- Maintenance/servicing of specialist equipment, check for quality/safety, undertake repairs/modifications within own capabilities and report other damages/needs
- Demonstrate and assist others in safe and effective use of specialist equipment/materials, including suggested alterations to proposed practical procedures to minimise apparent risks (seeking advice where necessary e.g. from CLEAPSS)
- To actively seek to establish links with local councils, construction companies and to liaise with these organisations (as directed by the Head of department ) to ensure that initiatives which support students’ engagement and enjoyment of DTC are effectively executed
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
- Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required
- Participate in training and other learning activities and performance management as required, and ensure that ongoing training is completed as necessary by relevant members of staff / students
