Our school is a successful and welcoming OFSTED rated ‘Good’ junior school based in West London. They are now looking to recruit Pastoral and Medical Assistant to report into the Assistant Headteacher.
Salary: £35,000
The Role
To secure the regular attendance of all pupils of Fairholme School by supporting pupils and families.
- To be responsible for the providing basic care and welfare to primary age children.
- To be responsible for and to take the lead on all school medical procedures.
- To provide clerical and administrative assistance as and when needed.
- To contribute to the safeguarding and protection of all pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
Attendance
- Ensure that the school is compliant with the Children Missing Education processes and all statutory requirements.
- To ensure pupils, parents and carers understand that regular attendance and educational attainment are linked.
- To clearly communicate to parents and carers their legal responsibility to ensure that their children attend school regularly and punctually.
- Be the main contact for attendance issues within the school and chase up reasons for absence on a daily basis using the class registers and with guidance from relevant colleagues.
- To contact parents to ascertain reasons for absence.
- To monitor and collate the class registers, ensuring that pupil absence is accurately recorded and that lateness is followed up.
- To initiate, maintain and develop relationships with parents of children with regular absence including phone calls, letters, emails and home visits etc where appropriate
- To meet with the Assistant Headteacher on a regular basis to review attendance levels and formulate strategies for improvement.
- To administer the school’s attendance rewards and incentives system.
- To contribute to the school newsletter, celebrating success and reminding of expectations on attendance.
- To take the lead in working with the appropriate agencies to support the statutory duty of legal action when all attempts to improve school attendance have failed.
- To work in consultation with the Assistant Headteacher to administer and monitor initiatives to improve attendance as required, for example, parenting contracts, penalty notices, first day calling etc.
Care and Welfare of Students
Medical
- To ensure appropriate storage and administering of prescribed medicines in line with appropriate medical direction.
- To obtain written consent for pupils requiring the administration of medication during the school day and ensure information is updated as required.
- To be responsible for preparing and updating appropriate Health Care Plans and maintaining an up to date record of all pupils with known health or personal concerns.
- To notify the Deputy Headteacher immediately of unusual marks, bruising etc. so that any possibility of “non-accidental injury” may be investigated.
- To take the lead in organising medical inspections as required, e.g. health and weight checks
- To liaise with the School Nurse on individual cases.
- To provide targeted pastoral support as directed by the school’s Leadership Team.
- To be responsible for organising medical training INSETs for teaching and non-teaching staff when appropriate.
Administrative Duties
- To work alongside the named safeguarding lead to monitor and ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed and provide any relevant information for child protection case conferences etc.
- To provide routine clerical support e.g. photocopying, filing, responding to routine emails and completion and processing of general forms as required by the schools Leadership Team.
- To assist with preparations for special events e.g. school concerts (including with costumes etc.), plays and parents evenings as required.
- To be jointly responsible in covering the school’s Reception
- To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- To assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time, as necessary for their safety, including supervising children who are not collected at the end of the school day.
- To attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and professional performance development as required.
- To undertake any other broadly analogous duties.
