Student Support Workers

You will be supporting students in college with additional needs on their catering course.
The purpose of this post is to assist and support students with a range of learning/physical disabilities on specific courses based in a catering environment.
The main duties and responsibilities are to:
1. Assist in all aspects of learning experience, giving encouragement and help to students or small groups of students.
2. Promote a positive image of the college in all contacts with students, employers and professional bodies.
3. Under the direction of the course lecturer, prepare kitchens ready for practical classes, this will involve ordering and delivery of food/equipment to the classroom.
4. Accompany lecturers and students on College visits, and participate in College functions within College hours.
5. Support individual students, who, following assessment, need a high level of personal support.
6. Ensure the kitchen classrooms are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness in accordance with current hygiene legislation, and maintain an inventory of mall equipment.
7. To carry out a cleaning rota for equipment liaising with the Catering Manager for cleaning of larger equipment.
8. Undertake any other tasks or functions appropriate to the post that contribute to the education and welfare of students.
9. Support students with a range of learning/physical disabilities which may include challenging behaviour.
10. Carry out any other reasonably comparable duties that may be required from time to time.
11. Undertake additional duties at enrolment times as required, including occasional evening work.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Please study the items in this person specification carefully and when completing your application form try to describe your knowledge, skills and experience in terms of those particular items:
1. Be able to demonstrate the motivation and skills to support students with learning difficulties in an educational setting.
2. Have previous relevant experience.
3. Possess a current Food Hygiene certificate or be prepared to work towards one.
4. Be willing to undertake training and development as required within the role to enable you to support teaching and learning. This may involve gaining a Skills for Life Qualification.
5. Possess appropriate IT skills relevant to the post, or be willing to undertake training.
6. Be able to demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills
7. Lifting/personal care as and when required
8. Have an awareness and understanding of equal opportunities
30 hours a week £12.42 per hour
Full vetting required, including DBS that covers children & adults.
